Before you book

Please read these first, then call.

Every patient has a doctor who suits them better; neither is superior. Better to say it plainly now than to find out after the consultation that we expected different things.

  1. 1

A return visit every two weeks

Treatment runs on a two-week rhythm: the medicine for these two weeks is finished within them, and the next prescription is rewritten from how you actually responded.

  2. 2

    You take part too

Take the medicine on schedule and in full, and record how your body responds — sleep, digestion, itch, mood, energy and so on.

  3. 3

The prescription is the doctor’s call

Each decoction is made for one person, from this week’s presentation and your response to the last prescription. It follows the illness.

  4. 4

    No topical ointments

The aim is a change in your whole state, not a brief improvement on the surface achieved by applying something to it.

  5. 5

    Fees

Consultations can be billed to Taiwan’s national health insurance; herbal decoctions are self-pay, priced on the prescription from each visit. Because the prescription follows the illness, the amount can vary a little. Please call for actual amounts — we will tell you plainly.

  6. 6

Allow an hour for the first visit

The consultation is 30 minutes and covers your whole system, not only the skin; lesions and tongue are photographed for the record. Bring your past prescriptions and test results, if you have them. The clinic is floored throughout in antibacterial timber. Please remove your shoes on entering; socks are advisable.

  7. 7

    Cancellations

So that every patient keeps their full consultation time, please call at least 48 hours ahead if you need to cancel or reschedule. We are unable to arrange further appointments after a missed visit without notice.

If all of this works for you, please call to book.

About the doctor

A somewhat atypical practitioner.

I examine the results of Chinese medicine through before-and-after photographs and blood work — not through rhetoric.

I took a long way round. I read Accounting at National Taiwan University and worked as a risk management consultant at Deloitte Taiwan; then I studied translation abroad — an MSc at the University of Edinburgh and doctoral research at Warwick.

That impure background lets me stay close to how ordinary people think, and understand what worries them about treatment. The hardest translation in this world is not Chinese to English but Chinese to Chinese — I am good at taking how a patient describes their own discomfort, rendering it in the language of Chinese medicine, and building a treatment around it.

I cannot promise a complete cure, but I will do my utmost.
